A Doulas Role

Berkshire Doula

The word Doula originates from Ancient Greece and means ‘female servant’, but is also known as a labour coach.
I offer support and assistance to women before, during and after childbirth, as well as her partner and/or family.
Continuous support during labour provided by doulas(along with a number of groups such as nurses, midwifes, partners, family or friends) has been associated with improved outcomes for the mum and baby. This includes shorter delivery, fewer Caesarean sections and complications. The positive psychological benefit for mums includes, a more satisfying birth experience and increased breastfeeding.
Additionally, I also offer postnatal care, providing continued emotional and physical support, such as meal preparation and light household duties, or fill in when a new mum needs a break.

I am a member of Doula UK and have completed the BirthBliss Aspiring Doula course which follows the core curriculum of Doula UK and is a Doula UK approved course.
